Starter decks are, I'd argue, the best introduction to a new trading card game. You don't need to fuss over singles or worry that your deck's construction is sub-par. All you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the adventure of learning how to play. Heck, Star Wars Unlimited's Twilight of the Republic starter set even comes with two decks, so you can easily convince a friend to join you on your galactic journey.
Plus, with a 46% discount on Amazon US, there's never been a better time to bully your pals into playing a game.
Twilight of the Republic was Star Wars Unlimited's third starter set. Featuring major players from the prequels, it does a fantastic job of communicating its theme through mechanics. These starter decks represent a head-to-head between Ashoka, with her army of Jedi and clone troopers, and the imposing General Grievous, who sends swathes of battle droids to fight on his behalf.
Both decks offer similar playstyles, with plenty of robotic cannon fodder to engage in ground combat and push towards your enemy's base. It's a well-balanced set of decks that are equally matched, making for a fun yet approachable introduction to the TCG.
It's important to note that, because of the age of this set, these aren't the strongest starter decks around. They're perfectly suited for learning to play, and they're an equal match for each other, but they wouldn't feel so effective against a modern, constructed Star Wars Unlimited deck.
Additionally, Twilight of the Republic rotates out of Unlimited's main format in March 2026. However, the cards will still be legal to play in a new Eternal format - and may become legal again if they are reprinted.
Still, if you're intrigued by the prequels theme - or aren't too concerned about constructed play just yet - these are an excellent bargain. UK players get a slightly weaker deal, with just 16% off from Amazon, but a discount is a discount. We're not sure how long this deal will last, so if you're itching to start playing, now is the time to act.
