Upcoming Leder board game Take is abruptly canceled four months after being announced

The board game’s designer, Ted Caya, “has decided to move on from the studio”, so Leder Games has axed its upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

Take, an upcoming board game project due to be published by Leder Games, has been unexpectedly canceled. Leder shared an update to Kickstarter on December 9, stating that "Take's designer, Ted, has decided to move on from the studio and onto his next grand adventure". "He will be bringing Take with him. Due to this, we are canceling this crowdfunding campaign. We wish him the very best!"

Leder Games has published some of the best board games of recent years, including Root, Oath, and Arcs. Ted Caya, the designer behind Take, was Leder's executive director of operations, and he'd apparently been working on Take for many years prior to its announcement in August.

This announcement came from a Kickstarter page quietly uploaded by Leder. The information found there was minimal, but a later Leder studio chat confirmed that the publisher was hoping to launch the campaign "in the Fall". Almost 8,700 people had followed the project before it was canceled.

Take was to be a competitive, negotiation-based heist game for three to five players. It focused on a group of thieves with unique powers, and it apparently offered a "fully-featured solo mode".

Leder's canceled Kickstarter isn't necessarily the end of Take, but the publisher says its future "is squarely in the designer's hands". "We enjoyed our play tests in the studio, and will certainly celebrate if/when Ted takes that next step toward production."
