Wargamer can exclusively reveal that publisher Kasedo Games and developer Bulwark Studios are delaying the release of Warhammer 40,000 Mechanicus 2 until Spring 2026 - as well as a brand new trailer showing off the unique gameplay style and strategic abilities of leaders for both playable factions. The studio is using the time to respond to player feedback from the game's popular Steam Next Fest demo, as well as applying a layer of polish to the new features.
One complaint about the Mechanicus 2 demo from returning fans was the inclusion of full voice acting, which replaced the deeply weird 'lingua-technis' code babble that the Mechanicus characters spoke with in the first game.
While the first game's lingua-technis might only exist because of budget constraints, it contributed to the ambience immensely, and - along with Guillaume David's techno-choral soundtrack - made Mechanicus one of the best Warhammer 40k games ever in terms of sheer soundscape and vibes. When the full version of Mechanicus II releases, players will have the option to choose between voice actors and that familiar techno babble.
Another issue with the demo was the halting pace of combat, including the need to manually select the 'move' option when cycling between units. A minor hindrance, but anyone who plays games like XCOM knows that the lost seconds from overlong animations or finicky control schemes really add up over hours of play. The new build will have an option to auto-select the Move action when you cycle to a new unit.
The developer also tells us it's "equally committed to addressing performance concerns raised during the demo period", in the form of "general code optimisation". And it's using the extra time for "continued refinement of new systems and campaign content" not present in the first game or the demo - and this exclusive trailer reveal shows what some of them are like.
The trailer - released today exclusively on Wargamer - is the first of a series that will introduce the game's unique leader characters. The xenotech obsessed Tech Acquisitor Scaevola returns from the original Mechanicus to fight on the Ad-Mech side, reanimation-focused Ominekh will be an early unlock in the Necron campaign.

Scaevola is a Cognition hungry leader, who gets more powerful the more of the resource her force is hoarding, reflecting her personality as a complete kleptomaniac for alien technology. The downside to this appetite for borderline tech heresy is Xenarite instability, which manifests in random bursts of energy that can hurt friend and foe alike.
Ominekh is much more defensive: he gains Dominion points whenever one of his units enacts its resurrection protocols, and grants healing to all friendly units when you pass certain Dominion thresholds.

The video shows how each faction has its own maximalist take on upgrades. The Ad Mech have a faction wide tech tree to upgrade their replaceable servants, while each piece of their leaders' gear can be tinkered with to a high degree.
In contrast, Necron lords can upgrade the members of their court, and customise their leaders with relics and command protocols which - if assembled in the right combos - can unlock a further Dynastic Resonance bonus. Unlike the shared unit pool accessible to the Ad Mech, each Necron leader has a personal, upgradeable court.
