Warhammer 40,000 is popular for a great many reasons, most of which involve copious amounts of testosterone and bullets. Perhaps a bit too much, as the proliferation of Space Marines has meant other groups get less of the spotlight. With the recently announced 500 Worlds of Ultramar expansion, it's only gonna get more Adeptus Astartes up in this space. However, there's hope for these fans as the new trailers focus on xenos, sororitas, and chaos denizens.
The first teaser follows a squad of Battle Sisters, specifically of the Order of the Sacred Rose. Followers of Saint Arabella, they stand out from the Battle Sisters of previous animations who tend to go full zealot. The Sacred Rose embodies the ideals of their saint, calm, cool, and collected even on the bloodiest battlefields. They are among the most underrated orders, and a refreshing change of pace from the Imperium's more "excitable" warriors.
Up next is the second teaser, which takes to the skies and focuses on the Aeldari. Saim-Hann, a Craftworld of seasoned warriors, gets into awesome dogfights with the Imperial Navy. This animation is especially exciting because aerial battles and Aeldari do tend to get lost in the shuffle of ground-based warfare. Plus, when's the last time any of us have seen Aeldari in action?
Chaos reigns in the final Warhammer 40k teaser, as the camera lingers on a Khorne Berzerker of the World Eaters. While there's unfortunately not much in the way of cleaving loyalist cattle, there's no way the full animation doesn't show that. All these animations and more will pop up on the Warhammer Plus streaming service.
Bit of a tangent, but Warhammer Plus truly has been a mixed bag in more ways than one. Meant to be a platform for awesome 40k content, its output has been much lighter than many expected. What's there is great, but for many, not enough to justify that steep yearly price point. These new animations may rectify that problem, especially if Astartes 2 is among them.
