The TTRPG space is ripe with horror opportunities. If you stop and think about it, it's easy to turn the average dungeon crawling adventure into a spooky campfire story. Adventurers have to face some truly terrifying sights in their pursuit of fame and glory, from ravenous undead to Lovecraftian terrors. In that regard, Wide-eyed Terror is a horror adventure for Dungeon Crawl Classics that you should definitely give a glance.
In Wide-eyed Terror, you investigate a missing delivery near old Bushelbearer Farm. Unfortunately, what started as a logistical screwup turns into a nightmare, when its revealed the Bushelbearers have become the target of Gorrsecck the Lidless and his violent flock. Only the PC can save Bushelbearer Farm from a bloody demise, all the while avoiding the same fate. When it comes to tabletop RPGs, DCC is one of the best systems for horror adventures,
Dungeon Crawl Classics is well-known among OSR fanatics, those who crave retro games where death is hilariously ever-present. Stennard is the horror setting that Wide-eyed Terror takes place in, and plays more like a survival horror. Characters are everyday folks trying to live through unspeakable horrors, just like any good horror story. The folksy town with low fantasy vibes is also reminiscent of games such as Pathologic. Strange NPCs, disturbing background lore, and lots of weird encounters are rife in Stennard.
I gravitated towards Wide-eyed Terror because of how much it vibes like 70s slashers. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the first that comes to mind, a barn filled with malicious miscreants led by a deranged patriarch. While megadungeons are always great fun, I love when tabletop sessions become intimate thrillers. The best horror happens when you seem alone, when you know you truly aren't.
