The sheer number of MTG keywords in Magic: The Gathering make it one of the most complex trading card games on earth. There’s no way one human mind can memorize so many mechanics – and thankfully, you don’t have to. This guide is here to do the hard work for you.
Below you’ll find a complete list of MTG keyword abilities and keyword actions. Alone, they can’t teach you how to play Magic: The Gathering, or which MTG Arena decks are best in the current meta. This means that during the game you can pay three mana, at Sorcery-speed, to place the Companion from your sideboard into your hand. Originally, a Companion could be played right from the sideboard, but this was so overpowered that Wizards nerfed the entire keyword.

A now retired keyword, cards with MTG Fading enter play with a number of Fade counters on them. You remove a counter on each upkeep, and if you can’t, must sacrifice the permanent.
This keyword itself faded out, to be replaced with Vanishing. The difference is that cards with Fading would disappear on the upkeep of the player’s next turn after the last counter was removed, which many players found unintuitive. Conversely, when the last time counter is removed from a Vanishing permanent, it immediately gets removed.
