If you wanna collect every Pokémon card from each Mega Evolution set so far, it'll set you back more than 85 booster boxes would.

While it seems like each successive expansion in the Pokémon TCG's Mega Evolutions era is getting smaller, the price of buying these cards certainly isn't. Even if you manage to score packs at a retail price, there's no guarantee you'll get those chase cards, and they all go for eye-watering prices on the secondary market. In fact, by my calculations, if you want a full master set of all Mega Evolutions expansions so far, you'll be spending over $13,000 on Pokémon cards. For reference, that's 85 booster boxes at retail price (or 27 Destined Rivals booster boxes at current market price, yuck).

To use a very annoying piece of Warhammer 40k gameplay jargon, Games Workshop's Armageddon box set reveals have been a bit "uppy downy" so far. The new Intercessor and up-armed Ork Boy went down well enough, and the Weirdboy is delightful; but our long awaited new Vanguard Veteran was a real whiffer, catching a lot of hate for looking too similar to the existing jump assault intercessors. Well, as of Monday, the Warhammer 40k 11th edition clap-o-meter is about to leap back up, because the new Jump Chaplain is far more interesting.

Dungeons and Dragons is dipping its toes into longform Actual Play content for the first time in many years, and the upcoming 'Dungeon Masters' show has a star-studded cast of actors, voice-actors, and D&D-adjacent celebs. Of course, that's practically a given for any high-profile AP show nowadays... Aside from being officially produced by the creators of the game, and having a kickass intro sequence, Dungeon Masters does have one other trick up its sleeve, a selling point to make it stand out from its competition. The show wants DMs to adapt the content for their own home games. Essentially, this is an actual play series where you can 'play-along' at home.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is getting a second edition later this year, and praise the atom, it looks like it's going to be far simpler than the overwrought original. I was given a brief demo of the revised Fallout miniature wargame at Adepticon, and was relieved to discover the rules have been greatly streamlined. This could be a perfect excuse to bring publisher Modiphius' excellent range of Fallout miniatures out of the vault and onto the tabletop wasteland.

When thinking about chase cards from the new MTG set Secrets of Strixhaven, the elder dragons are probably the first cards to come to mind. There is one card from the set that currently outvalues them all, though, Emeritus of Woe.

Whether you're a fan of 5e or 3.5e, there's no better time to be a Dungeons and Dragons fan than now. Not only is the fandom the biggest it's ever been, there are countless resources, apps and homebrew for players to dive deep into. While there will always be a special place in my heart for the days of pen and paper, I fully admit I adore blending technology with D&D. There's simply too much cool stuff out there for me to be puritan about how I play my sword n' sorcery games. And this VTT is an awesome resource for those in-person sessions.

Kalos has two other final form first partner Pokémon, though, Delphox and Chesnaught. Just like Greninja, both of these starters were given a new mega form in Pokémon Legends Z-A. While we've had no news on when Mega Chesnaught will make a TCG debut, players in Southeast Asia will be able to get their hands on new promotional Mega Delphox EXs starting in May.

The fantasy genre of anime has much to thank tabletop RPGs for. You may have noticed how several anime draw upon tropes typically found in Eurocentric fantasy, and there's one culprit: D&D. The 1970s saw a cult following for the classic TTRPG, with the most influential result being Records of Lodoss War. What started as a transcript of a D&D actual play soon became a franchise phenomenon, spawning novels, OVAs, and even its own RPG.

Trench Crusade is the grimmest, darkest, nastiest wargame currently on the market, and it stems from the mind of one man. Mike Franchina is a well-established concept artist in the videogame industry, whose baroque, grimdark designs influenced the grimier elements of games including Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2. Trench Crusade started as his own personal imaginary universe, a place for ideas too grotesque even for his work. Imagine my surprise, then, when I get a chance to interview the man at Adepticon, only to discover that he is unbelievably chill.

King's Cup is a drinking game played with an ordinary deck of 52 playing cards, and it's the perfect way to pregame before a big night out. You might also know it as Ring of Fire, Circle of Death, or Waterfall - though whatever you call it, the King's Cup rules remain the same. This guide will teach you how to play King's Cup, with clear descriptions of what each card does that you can follow even when you're sloshed.

"People flew in from all over the country to watch us do a four-hour one-shot." "That's when we started to realize: 'oh, something is happening here'.

In an amusing case of nominative determinism (if you don't know what that is, look it up, it's a real fun concept to have in your back pocket), the Pokémon Chaos Rising expansion's pre-orders on the company's official website were nothing short of, well, chaotic. Despite having only a small selection of Pokémon cards and few major faces, this Greninja-led expansion sold out like a shot on Pokémon Center. And, just a few days later, its coveted exclusive ETBs are already selling for over $200 on marketplaces like eBay.

Opening Pokémon TCG packs has always been about the thrill of the chase - you never know what you're going to get in each booster, and that ongoing search for your most wanted cards is a part of the fun. Now, there's a new chase with the Pokémon Dream Painting Water Ecology Figurine Set (try saying that three times as fast as you can), as my favorite Pokémon card from Journey Together has been turned into another chase. Regrettably, this little plastic Wailord is liable to become my Moby Dick.

Painfully early on the morning of March 23, I crawl out of my hotel room and stumble towards terminal two at Manchester airport in the Northwest of the UK. It's the start of my pilgrimage to the famed wargames convention Adepticon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and also the start of a week embedded with the game designers and business leads at games design studio Steamforged Games (SFG). It's going to be a frantic week testing games, interviewing designers, writing up keynotes, schmoozing PRs. But whenever I'm not on business, I'll be hanging out with the people who now own the rights to one of my all time favorite wargames, Warmachine.

In a major shake-up to the Dungeons and Dragons rules, DnD 2024 backgrounds are now responsible for your character's ability score increases and starting feat. They still offer extra skills and backstory ideas, but they're now more crucial than ever before to your character build. This guide explains each of the new DnD backgrounds, including how they can be mixed and matched with different character options. After DnD classes, 5e backgrounds are now the second-most important choice for your character build. DnD races play a smaller but still influential role, so be sure to keep up-to-date with their rules, too.

Here, we've drawn up a list of the most powerful and popular, old and new, from all of Magic: The Gathering's many formats. We've looked back across countless MTG sets, from recent releases all the way back to Alpha, to find the coolest, most jaw-droppingly powerful cards in all of Magic: The Gathering.
There's no shortage of Pokémon cards with prices in the five-figure or higher range. Our list of the most expensive rare Pokémon cards is full of older variants and promos that've accumulated scary value over the years. This Mew ex is a bit different, though; it's not a vintage classic, nor is it some big chase card with a BGS 10 Black Label grade. No, it's expensive because of how ridiculously scarce it is: only 1510 copies were ever made and, after this exclusive batch, there are no more coming out, ever.

My favorite fantasy tabletop RPGS tend towards flavor rather than mechanics. Yes, I do love optimizing my builds in Pathfinder 2e but I'd be lying if it wasn't the Impossible Lands that drew me in first. Fantasy TTRPGs rely so much on their aesthetic because that's where fantasy shines most. Even so, there's a delicate balance between storytelling focus and engaging gameplay. In that regard, Mork Borg provides a rules-lite system that encourages storytelling. As for flavor, this upcoming folklore horror RPG fits perfectly.

How do DnD stats work? We explain what Dungeons and Dragons ability scores actually mean, as well as how to calculate them.

DnD stats are the axis that all of Dungeons and Dragons spins on. They decide what DnD classes I'm best suited for. When I want to sling a spell, dodge a blow, or fell a foe, it's the six Dungeons and Dragons stats that decide my fate. Naturally, it's pretty important to understand how DnD stats work. That's why I've whipped up a quick yet thorough guide to calculating and using ability scores. Let's start simple. The six DnD stats are Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. You decide the starting value of these 'ability scores' during character creation, but they can be modified by your choice of DnD backgrounds (or, in the 2014 fifth edition rules, DnD races). They can also be improved with experience (see our DnD level ups guide to learn more).
